The manufacturer of military equipment, the Uralvagonzavod concern (UVZ, part of Rostec), is considering the possibility of creating a new version of a tank support combat vehicle (BMPT) based on the Armata tracked platform. This was announced by the general director of Uralvagonzavod, Alexander Potapov, in an interview with TASS, published on Monday, August 31.
Booking confirmed: the results of the “tank” conference IAV 2020 Experts in the field of modern armored vehicles gathered in London
“If we talk about BMPT, then the next step may be the installation of such a combat module on the Armata platform in 57 mm caliber. We are working on this too. And in this direction we will continue our development and research, “- said Potapov.
According to him, the name of the new vehicle will be Russified, since the Terminator, which was assigned to the previous version of the BMPT based on the T-72 tank, has a foreign sound.
“I still want a Russian sound. Let the terminators be in the USA, and we will have Ilya Muromets, Vladimir Monomakh or someone else, ”Potapov added.
On August 24, it became known that the Armata tank was tested in unmanned mode. According to the representative of the enterprise, specialists are working towards the creation of robotic combat vehicles of the leading edge.
In early July, it was reported that Russia was preparing “Armata” for sale abroad. According to Dmitry Shugaev, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Russian manufacturers are ready to offer potential buyers the S-300 and S-400 air defense systems, as well as the MiG-35 light fighter.
Armata is a heavy tracked platform developed by Uralvagonzavod. On its basis, a main tank, an armored recovery vehicle, an infantry fighting vehicle and other armored vehicles are created.
