The Russian Ministry of Defense is working on the issue of creating regiments and brigades “with increased combat capabilities.” They plan to combine the newest combat vehicles “Terminator”, “Breakthrough” and “Berezhok”.
The final decision on the creation of new regiments will be made upon completion of the research exercises, Izvestia sources clarified. As the commander-in-chief of the Ground Forces Oleg Salyukov said earlier, maneuvers involving T-90M Proryv tanks, BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles (BMP-2M) with the Berezhok module and Terminator tank support combat vehicles (BMPT) will take place next year.
It is planned to create brigades with the specified military equipment in already existing military units. It will concentrate in several formations at once, which will create an “armored fist” and, if necessary, change the situation on the battlefield, experts say.
“Both the BMP-2M with the Berezhok module and the T-90M tanks have much higher combat capabilities than the previous modifications, and the BMPT is generally a new type of equipment,” said military expert Viktor Murakhovsky.
According to him, there have not yet been mixed formations in Russia, unlike some foreign states. For example, the Bundeswehr has mixed battalions with motorized infantry and tank units.
