In 2021, it is planned to enter the modernized Tu-160 strategic missile carriers into service with the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS). This was announced on Wednesday, December 30, by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexei Krivoruchko in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
“The air component of the triad will be improved by ensuring the delivery of Tu-160 strategic missile carriers. Today, measures are being taken to produce them, state contracts have been signed, and next year we plan to start receiving them into the troops, ”he said.
As the Deputy Minister noted, in the next seven years, the fleet of such vehicles will grow one and a half times. In the future, the number of aviation complexes will be increased within the framework of the new state armament program for 2024–2033.
On December 23, Deputy General Director – Managing Director of UEC-Kuznetsov, Alexei Sobolev, said that the enterprise would deliver another batch of NK-32 engines of the second series for the modernized Tu-160M strategic missile carriers within a month.
Earlier, on December 21, it became known that the Russian Ministry of Defense plans to begin state tests of the modernized Tu-160 strategic missile carrier in 2021.
In November, at the airfield. S.P. Gorbunov, the first flight of the deeply modernized Tu-160M bomber-bomber with new serial NK-32-02 engines took place. According to the crew, the flight went off as usual, the systems and equipment worked flawlessly.
Tu-160M is a deeply modernized strategic missile-bomber. The first experimental Tu-160M was created as part of a large-scale modernization program for combat aircraft systems of strategic and long-range aviation, which is being carried out by Tupolev PJSC. The aircraft made its first flight on February 2, 2020 at the Gorbunov KAZ airfield.
