Flight tests of the new Russian strategic missile “Sarmat” will begin shortly. Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Alexei Krivoruchko told about this in an interview on December 30 to the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.
According to him, the missile drop tests have already ended with a positive result. In the near future, the Ministry of Defense will begin flight tests.
On December 16, it was reported that the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile would take up combat duty of the Strategic Missile Forces (Strategic Missile Forces) in 2022.
The Russian advanced missile system “Sarmat” with a heavy liquid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile will be able to attack targets through the North and South Poles, overcoming the enemy’s anti-missile defense systems.
The firing range of the “Sarmat” is 18 thousand km, the launch weight is 208.1 tons, the payload weight is more than 10 tons, the missile length is 35.5 m, the diameter is 3 m.
