Exercises to ensure the survivability of the Novorossiysk submarine were held at the base of the Russian Navy in Tartus, Syria. This was reported by the press service of the Russian defense department.
According to the scenario of the exercise, a fire occurred in the first compartment of the Novorossiysk submarine. The crew only have a few minutes to deal with the fire before the fire spreads to the torpedo deck.
First of all, the commander needs to seal the compartment, after which he gives the order to start extinguishing the fire with nitrogen. Such a fire extinguishing system allows you to fight a fire without affecting the personnel and their health. Nitrogen enters the compartment, displacing oxygen, which is an oxidizing agent for the spread of fire.
During the exercise, complex scenarios were also worked out, for example, with the victims. If one of the sailors inhaled carbon monoxide during the fire, then he is fixed on a stretcher and connected to an oxygen cylinder, after which the victim must be brought to the surface as soon as possible.
In the event of an emergency on the pier, this is quite easy to do – the sailor is taken by an ambulance team. However, on the high seas, things are much more complicated. As the head of the medical service of the submarine, Yevgeny Oparin, said, it is necessary to call the air force for evacuation by helicopters or surface ships.
On October 28, it was reported that the command of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia summed up the results of the experimental exercises. According to Izvestia’s sources in the military department, the experience gained was recognized as successful. More than a hundred fighters, bombers and interceptors were involved in the experiment.
During the day, the aviation group reflected in real time a massive enemy strike, intercepted its targets and destroyed ground targets and air defense systems.
