More than 200 cadets of the district training center of the Central Military District were tested at a specially prepared water center in the Sverdlovsk region. The exercises took place on the eve of the Day of the Tankman.
The tanks had to dive to a depth of 4 m when crossing the river in order to overcome a water barrier about 100 m wide.
“In the conditions of complete absence of visibility and visual reference points, the driver-mechanics controlled the tanks using special devices – gyro-compasses, which are designed to determine the direction of movement of combat vehicles under water,” the message says.
In addition, the cadets practiced evacuation actions in the event of a tank sinking. For admission to underwater driving, tankers needed to undergo a course of light diving training.
