Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that all T-72 tanks in the Russian army will be upgraded to T-72B3M. He told reporters about this after the completion of the International Army Games – 2020 (“ARMY-2020”).

The head of the defense department noted that modifications of the T-72B1 were presented in the first game competitions. After their completion, experts proposed a number of technical solutions that increased the combat effectiveness and reliability of combat vehicles.
“As a result, a modification of the T-72B3M appeared, which is not inferior in its characteristics, and in some ways even surpasses modern foreign tanks. The plans of the Ministry of Defense are to modernize all the T-72 tanks in service to this modification, ”TASS quoted him as saying on Saturday, September 5.
Shoigu noted that the technical solutions implemented on the T-72B3 tanks made it possible to increase their mobility, reliability and ergonomics.
Earlier on Saturday, Russian tankers won the final relay race in the ArmI-2020 tank biathlon program, which took place at the Alabino training ground near Moscow. Four crews from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and China fought for leadership at once.
In total, teams from 19 countries of the world, including Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, took part in the competitions, which took place from August 23 to September 5. All of them have repeatedly become prize winners of competitions in past years.
