A Russian Su-27 fighter from the Baltic Fleet intercepted two aircraft from the US Navy and the Swedish Air Force over neutral Baltic waters. This was reported at the National Center for Defense Management of the Russian Federation (NTSUO) on Thursday, September 17.

The crew of the Russian fighter identified the boards as the US Navy P-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft and the Swedish Air Force Gulfstream reconnaissance aircraft. He escorted them over the water area, not allowing them to violate the border.
Earlier on September 17, a Russian MiG-31 intercepted two American bombers in the skies over the Bering Sea.
