A Russian Su-27 fighter flew to intercept an American reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea. This was reported at the National Defense Management Center on Wednesday, September 9.
An aerial target approaching the borders of Russia was detected over neutral waters. A Su-27 fighter was taken into the air, the crew of which classified it as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135 of the US Air Force and escorted it over the Black Sea.
After the foreign plane turned around, the fighter returned safely to the home airfield. No border violation allowed.
On September 8, the Russian MiG-29 accompanied Norwegian aircraft twice a day over the Barents Sea. A day earlier, Russian fighters were escorted by a Norwegian Air Force plane and two British reconnaissance aircraft.
Last week, similar interceptions of Norwegian aircraft occurred four times – from 1 to 5 September. On September 3, the MiG-31 escorted US and British reconnaissance aircraft over the Barents Sea.
