The Russian Armed Forces celebrate the Day of the Missile Forces and Artillery on November 19. The date of the celebration was established 76 years ago.
It is noted that the modern missile forces and artillery include the missile forces and artillery of the Ground Forces, the artillery of the coastal forces of the Navy and the artillery of the Airborne Forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that today the troops are equipped with modern weapons for more than 60%.
At the same time, the modernization continues. Thus, the armed forces continue to receive updated self-propelled howitzers “Msta-SM”, large-caliber multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) “Tornado-S”, as well as modernized “Tornado-S”.
The Russian defense department also noted that in order to increase the mobility and fire capabilities of battalion artillery, including during operations in the Arctic, the development of a whole line of models of highly mobile artillery and mortar weapons on various types of wheeled and two-link tracked chassis is being completed.
November 19 was established as the Day of Artillery by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 21, 1944. The date of November 19 was chosen for the following reason: On November 19, 1942, with the powerful artillery preparation of the Red Army, Operation Uranus began – a Soviet counteroffensive during the Battle of Stalingrad, the beginning of a radical change during the Great Patriotic War.
