According to him, the air target over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea was approaching the state border of Russia.
“To identify the air target and prevent violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a MiG-31 fighter from the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet was taken into the air,” the Center noted.
The crew of the Russian fighter identified the aerial target as the Falcon-20 radio-technical reconnaissance and electronic warfare aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force. Then he accompanied him over the water area of the Barents Sea.
After the Norwegian plane turned from the Russian state border, the Russian plane returned to the home airfield. “The entire flight of the Russian MiG-31 fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace,” the center noted.
On the eve of the MiG-29 climbed to “intercept” Norwegian Air Force aircraft over the Barents Sea. Norwegian aircraft were not allowed to violate the borders of the Russian Federation.
