The Russian Defense Ministry will strengthen the defense of the Leningrad naval base (LenNVMB) with modern anti-ship coastal missile systems (BRK) “Ball”. They can effectively destroy small ships and boats, as well as fight amphibious assault forces. Sources in the military department told Izvestia about this on Monday, December 7th.
In the networks of “Ptitselov”: Air Defense will be armed with anti-aircraft complexes – “automatic” Ground Forces and Airborne Forces will receive different versions of the latest technology
According to the interlocutors of the publication, the decision to form the “Ball” division has already been made, its formation will be completed in 2021. Their task will be to protect Kronstadt and St. Petersburg.
Previously, LenNVMB guarded the Redut coastal missile systems division, which was disbanded in the early 2000s.
Experts believe that several such missile systems will be able to completely block the Gulf of Finland and make the approaches to the Northern capital inaccessible.
Experts also note that today it is a very important region, the defense of which must be strengthened, especially given the strengthening of the NATO countries in the Baltic.
LenVMB is based in Kronstadt, and its individual units and services are located in St. Petersburg and its environs, in particular in Oranienbaum.
After joining the service, the Bal ballistic missile complex will be able to fully control the entire Gulf of Finland, former chief of the Main Staff of the Navy, Admiral Valentin Selivanov, told Izvestia.
