Three regiments with intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) will be put on alert by the end of 2020. This was stated by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces (Strategic Missile Forces) Sergei Karakaev on the air of the “Military Acceptance” program on the “Zvezda” TV channel on December 13.
Sights and objectives: the share of modern weapons in the nuclear forces of the Russian Federation has reached 82% The country does not intend to get involved in a costly arms race, but will continue to strengthen its military potential
“By the end of this year, we have 81% of modern weapons, we are clearly fulfilling the task that we face, and we are putting on alert the three regiments that were planned for this year,” said Karakayev.
He added that over the past five years, more than 400 mobile units arrived at the formations and military units of the Strategic Missile Forces as part of the complexes and took up combat duty.
The program says that one of these regiments, with Yars mobile missiles, recently took up combat duty in a division near Barnaul.
The military leader emphasized that these are figures that show the volume of the Strategic Missile Forces to date.
In January, the Ministry of Defense announced that the Strategic Missile Forces will be 100% equipped with new missile systems by 2024. Thus, the troops “will cross the line beyond which there will be no Soviet-made missile systems in combat.”
Now in the combat composition of the missile forces there are seven types of missile systems. These are complexes of stationary (“Voevoda”, “Stilet”, “Topol-M”, “Yars”) and mobile (“Topol-M”, “Topol”, “Yars”) basing. In the near future, it is planned to re-equip the formations for the Sarmat, Avangard and Yars complexes.
Yars is a mobile and silo-based strategic missile system. It can hit targets at a range of up to 11 thousand km, is equipped with a multiple warhead with maneuvering individual guidance units.
