The day before, the general director of the Severnaya Verf plant, Igor Orlov, announced that the Thundering was planned to be handed over to the Navy on December 25.
“Thundering” is the lead corvette of Project 20385, which was laid down on February 1, 2012 and launched in June 2017. The corvettes of this project were developed at the Almaz Central Design Bureau. They are designed to perform escort and strike missions in the near sea zone, patrolling coastal waters, and sentinel service.
The Thundering will become the first ship to carry the Caliber missiles in the Pacific Fleet. In October 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin, while visiting a corvette under construction, announced plans to equip it with the latest Zircon hypersonic missiles.
