The Ministry of Defense will strengthen the defense of Kamchatka. Two Project 20385 corvettes will be deployed to the shores of the peninsula, and then ships of the 20380 series. The newest strategic missile carriers Borey are based on the peninsula, as well as Yasen strike submarines – carriers of the Zircon missiles. Project 20385 corvettes are considered one of the most dangerous in the coastal zone. They are equally capable of destroying underwater, surface and even ground targets and are made using stealth technology. According to experts, the ships will help radically protect the submarine base on the peninsula.
The first ships will arrive on the peninsula next year, sources told Izvestia in the military department. In particular, the head corvette of the project 20385 “Thundering” will be sent to the defense of Kamchatka. It was handed over to the Navy last year and is now completing tests. In the same place, the second representative of the series, “Agile”, will serve as guarding the coast of the peninsula.
In addition to project 20385 corvettes, ships of the 20380 series – Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov and Rezky – will be sent to Kamchatka. The first of them is now being tested, the second is being completed. According to the plan, they should become part of the Pacific Fleet by the end of next year.

– One of the main purposes of corvettes is anti-submarine warfare. And in Kamchatka, the main grouping of nuclear submarines of the Pacific Fleet is located, – the former chief of the main headquarters of the Navy, Admiral Valentin Selivanov, explained to Izvestia. – Therefore, the submarines of our potential enemy have a great interest in this area. They can be on duty there to meet our strategic missile carriers leaving the base: it will be difficult to find them in the ocean, but much easier off the coast. There are no stationary anti-submarine weapons there: there are great depths on the approaches to Kamchatka. Therefore, the grouping of corvettes is increasing. Of course, two ships are not enough there. We need a lot of funds, including aviation.
According to the admiral, the corvettes will have to participate in ensuring the launch of the nuclear submarine on combat duty. They will conduct a search operation along the planned route two to three days before the submarine leaves the base.
– Corvettes should detect the enemy’s submarine in advance, – added Valentin Selivanov. – In peacetime, they notify the base, and the command takes action: changes the route, delays the exit, or continues everything according to plan – depending on the situation.

Project 20385 multipurpose corvettes have a displacement of more than 2 thousand tons, a length of 104 m, a width of 13 m. They develop a speed of up to 27 knots and have a cruising range of up to 4 thousand miles. The ships carry on board the Kalibr-NK missile system, a 100-mm artillery mount, and the Paket anti-submarine system. An anti-submarine helicopter can be placed on the deck.
To protect against air strikes, the ship has the newest Redut anti-aircraft missile system. It includes a Poliment radar station (radar) with four phased antennas. The missiles are deployed in vertical launch systems, consisting of modules of four or eight cells each. As a result, the complex can fire up to 16 targets simultaneously. Its practical range is 400 km.

The ships are designed using stealth technology, the superstructures are made of multilayer composite materials, which seriously reduced the visibility of corvettes in the radar range.
In addition, the new ships will receive Zaslon radar systems, which will make it possible to detect even inconspicuous air and sea objects at a distance of hundreds of kilometers. They are able to effectively find stealth vehicles at a distance of 75 km, and simpler targets at least 300 km away.
The “Barrier” antenna unit is fixed at the base of the mast and outwardly resembles a pyramid with a large number of faces, behind each of which are hidden stationary transceiver devices that track the movements of various objects. Radar operators can receive on screens an accurate and continuous picture of the air, surface and ground situation in real time. In traditional installations, it is interrupted due to the rotation of the transceiver unit. The complex includes a control room, a command post, posts of high-frequency and radio-technical devices.
Today in the ranks are two representatives of the series – “Perfect” and “Loud”. Two more are due to enter the Pacific Fleet (PF) next year. In the future, according to the plan, the construction of six more corvettes is envisaged, but they have not yet been laid down.
